Cococello Logo Sketches

I'm working with a hand lettering artist (to be named later) on my logo and below is an image of the first draft.

I wish I could afford a full blown exploration (would have been oh-so-nice) but budgets are budgets and in these tough times I need to mind the bank.

Why work with a hand lettering artist? First, it is very hard to design your own logo. I was suffering from constantly questioning direction. I wanted something unique. And frankly, I was having a hard time deciding on which way to go. I was too close to it.

Hiring an expert lettering artist seemed the way to go and relieves some of the pressure on self. Plus, working with another creative person is a blast -- provide some specs and see what magic comes back to you. Here's the magic:

And in terms of specs I listed a bunch of adjectives: warm, friendly, modern, contemporary, fresh, unique, clean, elegant and eclectic. Oh, and it must be readable at a small size.

I also shared that Cococello was a result of combining my love for chocolate (back when I could eat chocolate - coco) and my love for the cello (an instrument I played when I was more talented and younger - cello). I guess it helps that it sounds Italian, too!

I love all these sketches so now is the time to start deciding and refining.

I'm open to thoughts and suggestions! Speak your mind.
