First block prints

Ta-da! Here are my first block prints created with the flower design I started to carve out last week in class. Palmarin and I decided to test it out first using just black ink on newsprint and I just loved it! Peeling the paper slowly off the block is similar to watching the latent image appear on photographic paper in the darkroom. It is equally gratifying taking the paper out of the press when letterpress printing, too! Come to think of it, that satisfaction and mini-thrill happens when I see any of my efforts published or on paper, including when code works and what I'm seeing in my head appears on screen! Accomplishment. Woohoo!

Here is a second try with the yellow ink:

Here is the carving with the yellow ink washed off. At this point, I had to carve away the background so I could apply green ink to the leaves and flowers.

And, here's the result with the green ink. It was a test run to see if I needed to carve more away and I do! That's my project until next class as well as beginning another carving. Yay!
